The Project

In 2011, a shop floor was turned into a modern conference centre at the German H&M site in Hamburg. It had to create a flexible space which was able to deal with a very varied set of demands: from modern conference spaces and meeting and training rooms, to an attractive space for fashion shows and functions. Among other things, they wanted flexible walls which could turn a large space into three smaller meeting rooms in a few minutes and then change from a row of meeting rooms into a continuous catwalk. All these scenarios required a flexible lighting solution that would adapt quickly and easily to all eventualities. The whole conference area was kitted out with dimmable LED lamps. As a consequence, pre-defined lighting scenarios could be called up. Modern LED PowerBalance recessed luminaires create a two-dimensional illumination for the modular meeting rooms and the catwalk. These are equipped with the innovative Smart Pyramid Optics system and highly efficient LED modules and offer very high performance as a result. In the entrance, kitchen and bathrooms, pivoting StyliD Mini create individual accents and highlight the subdued atmosphere with an attractive design and high-quality light. Compared with halogen lighting they offer substantial energy savings with comparable light quality. The centre-piece of the lighting concept is the intelligent, professionally programmed Philips Dynalite control system. It reacts to the position of the flexible walls and matches the lighting of the relevant room section to the usage requirements. As a result, any scenario can be lit in the best way possible automatically (or manually) – from a one-to-one discussion to an event with 150 participants.
